Notes
If you want to brush up your knowledge of Jazz history then type the following into your internet browser:- "50 great moments in Jazz". You should come up with a series from the Guardian of that name, where you can read about landmark events such as Duke Ellington's comeback at the Newport Jazz Festival. Today at 7 pm you can watch a live screening from Ronnie Scott's of Kansas Smitty's House Band www.ronniescotts.co.uk/performances/view/5974-livestreaming-tonight-kansas-smittys-house-band It is just one of numerous live transmissions across the web that are currently available during lockdown.

Members can gave commentary on their jazz choices as follows.
John B
“Peter Appleyard is another immense talent never recognised till after his death. This clip really focuses on 22 year old Scott Hamilton, which is an eye opener”
“Any trumpet tutor would have cringed at Wild Bill's technique [or lack of it] - almost everything he does is "wrong" - but he was unique, a fiery and instantly recognisable lead & solo player. There are many versions of this lovely number, but this is the one for me, and very impressive to be able to see him perform it.”
Cynthia K
“I saw Toots at a festival in the Netherlands when I was living in Germany. He originated from Belgium of course and was the star of the festival.”
“I chose this after hearing one of Bobby Hutcherson’s tracks the other night on the Jamie Cullum Jazz programme on Radio 2.”
Terry J
“Some time back we listened to George Melly’s rendition of “Send me to the ‘Lectric Chair” and wondered at the extraordinary lyrics. Here Bessie Smith gives them force.”
“This an Art Ensemble of Chicago track featuring the soul singer Fontella Bass who was married to band member Lester Bowie. The track sounds very ‘sixties’ though it was actually recorded in 1970."
Richard I
" I saw this on a BBC programme Jazz Diva's. I tend to forget how good Dudley Moore was as a Jazz pianist and this piece with Marion Montgomery is sublime."
"...and an old favourite of mine."
