Returning to our previous theme, this is Sarah Vaughan singing live.

Previously ‘Track of the Day’ ran down a chart of the ‘Top 300 Jazz Artists’ as determined on ‘Rate Your Music’. The new theme is ‘artists that didn’t make the charts’.
OOPS!!!!! ……. I seem to have lost track here. Having started to cover tracks by Dinah Washington, I lost the plot and moved to Sarah Vaughan. (Sarah Vaughan was part of ‘Top 300 Jazz Artists’ where Dinah Washington wasn’t).
This is definitely Dinah Washington singing the blues. Any innuendo is entirely coincidental.

Farewell to Panamanian-American jazz saxophonist Carlos Garnett. As well as recording in his own right, he appeared on a number of Miles Davis albums.

This is a tribute track for British keyboardist Robin Lumley, who was part of the group Brand X. I had heard of neither until now but I found this track to be quite engaging.

Aretha Franklin recorded an album entitled ‘Tribute to Dinah Washington’. In this track we can hear Dinah laying the foundations for Aretha.

Our next artist is Ethiopian musician and arranger Mulatu Astatke considered as the father of "Ethio-jazz".
His was the last concert I went to before lockdown. It was at the Jazz Cafe in Camden and the whole joint was rocking. It was a brilliant performance. A sort of Jazz/African version of James Brown.
He will be at the Love Supreme festival in Sussex in late June.

Here we get a good helping of Mulatu Astake's vibraphone playing. This is an early recording made in New York at a time when he was starting out.
