Previously ‘Track of the Day’ ran down a chart of the ‘Top 300 Jazz Artists’ as determined on ‘Rate Your Music’. The new theme is ‘artists that didn’t make the charts’.
Here is a presentation on Jabbo Smith prepared by another U3A group. (Some of the tracks in this video might replicate ones I post here.)

The next artist 'who didn't make the chart' is Back Door. One wouldn't have expected them to have a place among the best 300 Jazz artists because their achievements largely went unrecognised. Nevertheless they have a pretty unique approach to Jazz and are worthy of exploration.

This is a track to celebrate the fact that Herbie Hancock will be performing on Glastonbury festival’s Pyramid stage, at 2pm tomorrow.
Hopefully we will get a chance to see him in the TV coverage. After all, he is older than McCartney.

This has been posted on 'Track of the Day' before, but here is a second track in recognition of Herbie Hancock's set at Glastonbury today.

I am off to see the wonderful Gladys Knight at the Albert Hall tonight. She is 78 years young and still going strong.

Gladys Knight showed last night that she still has the vocal power. Unfortunately her rambling commentary between number somewhat reflected her age.
This one of Back Door's less frenetic tracks.
