Terry J writes the following. Although Bill Frisell is generally considered to be a Jazz guitarist, his music might be better classified as ‘Americana’.
One of his best regarded albums 'Have a Little Faith' covers music from Charles Ives, Aaron Copland, Sonny Rollins, Madonna, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters and John Sousa.
On another album ‘Nashville’, he plays with country musicians.
The track 'Gimme a Holler' is just beautiful; likewise his cover elsewhere of the American Folk Song 'Shenandoah' featuring Ry Coder.
Some of the music on the album ‘Bill Frisell Quartet’ was composed as a sound track to the film Gary Larson's Tales from the Far Side.
The music almost matches the weirdness of the film.
