www.canterburyfestival.co.uk/whats-on/music/summer-picnic-and-concert.aspxThis year the music will be provided by the Strait Eight Jazz and Blues Band who, with their line-up of Saxophones, Piano, Vibes, Guitar, Bass and Drums, promise not only Jazz and Blues, but some Swing and even a touch of Rock’n’Roll. Expect numbers such as ‘Don’t Get Around Much Anymore’, ‘Emily’, ‘I’ve Got the World on a String’, ‘Just Friends’, and ‘Shiny Stocking’. The band also features chanteuse Rachel Hutching who, in the style of the iconic Billie Holliday, will perform songs such as ‘God Bless the Child’, ‘Why Don’t You Do Right’, ‘Crazy He Calls Me’ and ‘You Go to My Head’. Tea and coffee will be on sale in the garden. Gates open at 5.30 and the band strikes up at 6.30: tickets £15. The dress code is ‘British Summer’ so you can bring your boater or wear your wellies. There is car parking available and a wet weather venue if needed.
