This rare and exclusive recording may be one of a kind.
Made over 50 years ago, it is from the 1st International Django Reinhardt Festival, which took place in Django’s birthplace of Liberchies, on the 15th of September 1963.
The festival was organized as a tribute to the great guitarist who had died a decade before. The international line up included Joseph Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. Ken had also been invited to perform - one of the highlights of his life and career.
Notes in Ken’s archive indicated that he had also recorded the concert and broadcast an extract on the BBC, however no reels were ever found. Amazingly after 5 years of searching, Trevor Davies came forward with this recording he made in October 1963, a taping of Ken’s original BBC broadcast.
Thanks to Trevor Davies for sharing the recording on the Ken Sykora Radio and to David Richardson of SRT for cleaning it.
