The 'Track of the Day' is currently running down a list of the 'Top 300 Jazz Artists'. rateyourmusic.com/list/noname219/top_300_jazz_artists/2/. The list is based upon the number of entries and positions that an artist has achieved in a published list of most popular Jazz albums. Because it based upon album popularity, there is necessarily a bias towards more recent artists. Louis Armstrong may have sold umpteen different 'Greatest Hits' album but unless one or more particular 'Greatest Hits' album is rated, then none of them count towards his standing in the 'Top 300 Jazz Artists'. Despite this limitation, it is an interesting list that is worth exploring. A live track from EST which should appeal equally to fans of fusion and acoustic Jazz. Great to see how Svensson bends the piano notes by putting his hands inside the piano.

At 100, saxophonist Joe McPhee.
As we reach this significant number in the charts, I wonder how many people are following the chart rundown. The bottom of the website tells me that there were 42 visits in the last 24 hours. However my son tells me that this doesn't measure the number of followers, since Google bots etc are also recorded. I have to admit that each time I post, a couple of new visitors pop up almost immediately. This does look like evidence of bots unless there are some individuals who have worked out how to be notified of a new posting and who are so intrigued that each time that they immediately investigate. I know I have one regular follower, since he has joined as a member and and he is permanently logged on, so his visits are recorded as a 'member visit'. If anyone wishes to give me encouragement in this venture, then please sign up and visit as a logged-in member. Being a member additionally gives you a chance to provide feedback to Admin. How am I doing? What would you like to see after this rundown?

At 98, 'Penguin Cafe Orchestra'. I have heard of them but not knowingly heard their music. That said, this track sounds very familiar.

I just found out that Wayne Shorter had his 85 birthday a few days ago, so in recognition of this I am interrupting the chart run down to post a track of his.

At 97, Anthony Braxton composer and multi-instrumentalist. Given his avant-garde credentials, I approached his music with some trepidation but actually this track is quite listenable, not to mention interesting.
