During WWII the U.S. government produced and distributed 78 RPM "Victory Discs," or V-Discs, to their troops stationed throughout the world. The records were to be destroyed after the war but many of them survived. A lot of the V-Disc material was taken from radio programs like Command Performance; you can find out more in the book, V-Discs: A History and Discography by Richard Sears. Below is a link to the archive material produced between 1943 and 1949 - the period in which V-Discs were released. All the material on this site can be both streamed and/or downloaded. Either way, it is a fascnating legacy from this period in World and music history. archive.org/details/V-discs1-991943-1944/1943-10-xx-001-V-Disc-A-Bea-Wain-with-Orchestra---Comin-in-on-a-Wing-and-a-Prayer.mp3
