Another local Jazz venue gone. Maidstone Pizza Express is to close and along with it the Music Room www.kentonline.co.uk/maidstone/news/pizza-express-branch-set-to-shut-231542/The long standing running commentary below has come to an end. What do Soho, Chelsea, Birmingham and Maidstone have in common? They each provide a flagship music venue for Pizza Express. Maidstone Pizza Express is housed in an early 19th century, full of character building that was formerly a Conservative club. It incorporates a dedicated 100 seated, cabaret style venue, including a balcony, a superb P.A. system and an in-house stage piano. It has superb acoustics. I have a fond memory of a (then) unknown Jamie Cullum singing "Light my Fire" with no microphone accompanied by Geoff Gascoyne on acoustic base. Admission charges are typically £15 before any food or drink. They have full a varied programme covering different musical genres. Upcoming events include the following. Programme suspended during lockdown.
